Ceramic Boards Installed at Ryukoku University's Three Campuses|Unveiled at Dedication Ceremony

2025/04/15

Ceramic boards installed at Ryukoku University's Seta Campus (Shiga), Omiya Campus (Kyoto), and Fukakusa Campus (Kyoto) were unveiled on March 19, 26, and 28, respectively.

Ryukoku University is implementing its ultra-long-term plan, “Ryukoku University Basic Concept 400,” leading up to its 400th anniversary in the 2039 academic year. As part of this “Concept 400,” facility improvements were carried out at the three campuses of Seta, Omiya, and Fukakusa. To commemorate this, the Ryukoku University Alumni Association and the alumni associations of each faculty donated ceramic boards.

At the Seta Campus, a total of six ceramic boards explaining valuable books and materials such as the “Sanyōki” and “Kaitai Shinsho” have been installed.
At the Omiya Campus, a ceramic board featuring an approximately 4.8 times enlarged version of the “Celestial Globe Diagram” (a constellation map painted by Edo-period artist Shiba Kohan) is displayed in the Reimeikan building. Additionally, a ceramic board displaying a photograph of the Third Buddhist Middle School Main Building (built in 1909), enlarged approximately 16 times, is installed in the café of the affiliated Heian Junior and Senior High School.
Additionally, on the exterior wall of the Ekokan Hall at the Fukakusa Campus, a ceramic board approximately twice the size of the “Map of the Unified Territory and Successive Capitals” (Kon'itsu Kyōri Rekidai Kokuto no Zu), considered the oldest surviving world map, has been installed.
All installed ceramic boards were produced based on valuable books and materials held by Ryukoku University. The initiative aims to foster a sense of belonging among current students by raising awareness of the university's treasured collections and deepening their understanding of its history. It also seeks to serve as a platform for communicating Ryukoku University's appeal to alumni and the general public.
