Speaking at Tokyo University of Science

2025/05/16

On April 24, our company president, Osugi, gave a lecture in the “Ceramics Experiment I ” course taken by students in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Tokyo University of Science.

This course aims to teach students about ceramic fabrication and the mechanisms of glaze coloration through experiments and group work.
As the first session for students beginning research on ceramic materials, Mr. Osugi, together with guest lecturer Professor Kusano Yoshihiro from Okayama University of Science, delivered a foundational lecture serving as an introduction to the entire course. Following Professor Kusano's lecture on glaze coloration research for Bizen ware, Mr. Osugi spoke on the theme “The Current State of Ceramics: Otsuka Ohmi’s Ceramics.” He covered fundamental ceramic knowledge, introduced various ceramic forming methods, discussed the process from site surveys to production during the construction of the Otsuka Museum of Art, and explained our company’s replication techniques and their applications.

Students who attended the lecture asked questions such as: “In this era of virtual advancement, can virtual objects be transferred onto ceramic boards instead of physical ones?” and “We’d like to visit the Otsuka Museum of Art and the Shigaraki factory in person.” After the lecture, many students carefully observed and touched the ceramic board color samples and replicas brought by our company. We hope this lecture sparks their interest in future experiments and group work.

We will continue activities that broaden students' learning horizons.
