On July 22, a new ceramic board “A-bomb Memorial Painting Monument” was unveiled at the west end of Aioi Bridge in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, where the Atomic Bomb Dome is visible across the river.

To convey the devastation of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima, ten monuments featuring drawings by survivors have been installed at temples, churches, hospitals, and other locations throughout the city. This eleventh monument, installed for the first time in 19 years to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the bombing, was jointly produced for the first time by the citizen group “Returning Hibakusha Drawings of the Atomic Bombing to the City Streets” and the City of Hiroshima.
The monument combines four ceramic-fired paintings with an explanatory panel titled “At This Place, On That Day” accompanied by the message: “Please look at these paintings so that this scene is never repeated on Earth.”
Additionally, atop the monument's base (70 cm tall, 130 cm wide, 60 cm deep), five stones from the paving of an old Imperial Army facility—unearthed during the construction of the nearby Edion Peace Wing Hiroshima soccer stadium—were installed. These stones frame the ceramic boards like a picture frame.

Continuing to convey a message of peace in this land
We hope this atomic bomb memorial painting will continue to convey a message of peace to all who visit this place for generations to come.
