Monument commemorating the hosting of the surfing competitions of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was installed.

2022/08/27

To commemorate the hosting of the surfing competitions of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, a ceramic monument made by our company was installed at Tsurigasaki Beach in Ichinomiya-cho, Chiba Prefecture, where the competitions were held.

The monument is composed of a surfboard and the ocean waves of Tsurigasaki, with a ceramic board replacing the surfboard with the signatures of approximately 40 athletes competing in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 installed in the center of the monument. The ceramic monument, which is resistant to the harsh environment of the seaside, will be carried on as an Olympic legacy in the future, and will show the world that Ichinomiya is a sacred place for surfing.

At the unveiling ceremony held on August 2, Ichinomiya Mayor Masaya Mabuchi and others attended and the Mayor told “I hope that the monument will serve as a reminder to many people that the first surfing competition of the Games was held here." After the unveiling ceremony, families who had come to play in the ocean took commemorative photos of the monument, and local surfers were seen enjoying conversation over the signatures burned into the ceramic board, and we already encountered scenes where this monument attracted people's interest.
