The ceramic board named "Koukaku" depicts cranes, the symbol of Tsurui Village, flying dynamically across the shimmering snowfield. Some of three-dimensional relief of a crane (approximately 80 cm wide) are placed on a flat ceramic board measuring approximately 6 m (H) x 1.6 m (W). The relief of the cranes is set against the background of a large ceramic board filled with the shimmering glaze that changes color depending on the angle and the way the light hits it, creating a wall surface that gives a different impression depending on the time of day and weather conditions.

At the completion ceremony, Village Mayor Masayuki Oishi explained about the ceramic board “It represents the villagers interacting with each other through sports, and the growth of children, that are superimposed on the image of a crane with its wings spread wide, and wishes for the development of the village”.

We hope that the facility will be loved and familiar to many people for a long time to come.
