National Treasure Dogu Clay Figurine "Jomon Goddess" Replica Produced

2021/11/16

Our company produced a replica of the National Treasure Dogu Clay Figurine "Jomon Goddess" excavated in Funagata Town, Yamagata Prefecture, and the unveiling ceremony was held at the Funagata Town Central Community Center on November 10, 2021.

  • The completed high-resolution replica of the National Treasure Dogu Clay Figurine "Jomon Goddess".

The National Treasure Dogu Clay Figurine "Jomon Goddess" was excavated at the Nishinomae Site in Funagata Town in 1992, designated as a National Treasure in 2012, and is currently in the collection of the Yamagata Prefectural Museum.
Since the original cannot be seen in Funagata Town, we were commissioned by Funagata Town to make a replica of it in order to increase opportunities for people in Funagata Town, where it was excavated, to come into contact with the national treasure and and to make their appeal known to a wider audience.

In the reproduction process, we used 3D measurement data to faithfully reproduce not only the shape but also the surface irregularities.
For the detailed texture, our technicians retouched it by hand while checking the original photographs to express the roughness and colors.
Furthermore, with guidance and advice from the curators of the Yamagata Prefectural Museum, we were able to complete a high-resolution replica that is almost identical in weight.

The replica will be available for viewing at the Funagata Town Central Community Center until the end of March 2022.
