The museum was built in 1931 to tell future generations about the damage and reconstruction caused by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. The "Monster Statue" is a stone statue that has been placed above the main entrance of the museum since its opening.The stone statues, which had been severely damaged, were faithfully restored with our terra cotta and installed as they were when the museum first opened.
