JR Oita Station North Exit Station square completed: Ceramic Floor Boards Unveiled

On Saturday 21st of March 2015, a memorial ceremony was held at JR Oita Station North Exit Station square after completion of Oita station around comprehensive improvement.
As a new symbol of the square, statues of Otomo Sorin, local hero who brought the culture of South Sea Islands, and St. Francisco de Xabier are installed and also diameter around 11m of ceramic floor boards printed Nanban world map on it was laid out on the square.
This ceramic floor boards was produced by our company.

  • The unveiled ceramic floor boards (Pelorus) 

This map was created in 16 century and letters ‘Bungo’is written in Kyushu location. Information of aggressive diplomatic posture and prosperity of Otomo Sorin (1530-1587) who had a great influence at that time based in Bungo was transmitted to Europe. The result Bungo is considered to have been transcribed on the map.

The ceremony is bustling with many people and some of them take photos with pointing finger to the letter Bungo.
